Wafa Mahmood
As Salam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah,
Dear Members of the ICF Community,
I humbly ask for your review and consideration of my qualifications for the 2025-2026 ICF Shura elections.
My name is Wafa Mahmood. In the summer of 2023, my family and I moved to Frisco from Belleville, IL. Moving here and witnessing this special community firsthand was the sole encouragement I needed to jump in and immerse myself in volunteering. For over two years now, I have served the Sister’s Committee organizing events geared towards bringing Muslim sisters together and learning more about Islam. Throughout these years I have helped organize a variety of events ranging from potlucks, fun outings that incorporate halaqas, physical activity, and connecting with nature, as well as large and intimate speaking events offering a wide range of topics.
During our time in Belleville, I taught Islamic Studies for 4 years at our local masjid. For 5 additional years, I managed fundraisers for the masjid and organized a plethora of events for all ages of the community. Likewise, my position on the ICF board have varied and I genuinely enjoy the variety of work I partake in. Between planning events, working with the marketing team in advertising, fundraising, preparing and setting up the room layout before the event occurs, managing attendance, assisting with questions, offering my management experience to ensure a smooth event, and taking responsibility for any issues that arise, I have become more than comfortable with high pressure situations and the multi-tasking, time management, and organizational skills necessary to be a true asset to the team.
Having worked with multiple masajid under various roles, I am confident in my ability to bring in fresh ideas to the ICF community and apply the best ways to connect with people. As a mother to four grown boys myself, I also empathize with sisters juggling life with children whilst finding ways to connect with Allah. I have great aspirations for what we can further offer our community to ensure our youth, sisters, and brothers continue finding reasons to return to the masjid. The opportunity to serve on the shura would allow me to assist in improvements that would make ICF a vibrant, spiritual sanctuary that is welcoming to all and grounded in mercy.
My vision for future improvements would include, but certainly not limited to, the following:
Fostering a sense of inclusion for all to feel accommodated at the masjid including convert support, multilingual signage around the masjid including braille if possible, events with childcare support for new parents, and a variety of youth programs.
Maintaining transparency with the community with how their donations are being spent.
Ensuring high quality masjid experiences for the sisters including equitable space—prayer area is clean, comfortable, and visual/hearing access to khutbahs and educational programs are top notch. Those with little ones have family friendly spaces and childcare staffed events to enjoy.
Arranging workshops, seminars, and private counseling for our youth so the masjid is always a safe space for them to discuss topics like stress, depression, healthy relationships, world events, and a variety of mental health issues they are facing in today’s society.
I have wholeheartedly dedicated my time and energy to being an active member of the community which comes first from the grace of Allah SWT for instilling this passion in me and the dedication to ensuring every mother, father, and youth of our Ummah find reasons to keep returning to the house of Allah (SWT). I humbly ask my fellow community members to consider my sincere drive and enthusiasm to continue my work efforts with ICF as a member of the shura.
JazakAllah Khair for your consideration & support in the upcoming elections.
