Student and Family Resources

School Timings

Due to our extensive community growth over the past few years, Sunday School has adopted a two-shift schedule to accommodate additional students while maintaining a productive environment.

Students in kindergarten to third grade are in the first shift, which is from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Students in fourth to eighth grade are in the second shift, which is from 11:45 AM to 2:15 PM.

Duhr Salah & Student Dismissal

Duhr salah is considered a part of the school day for Session 2 students. We encourage parents to arrive at 2:00 PM to pray Duhr with their students to set a positive example, and pick them up after salah.

Arrival & Dismissal

  • Please arrive at least 5 minutes before classes begin. Students who arrive more than 5 minutes later than the arrival time will be issued a tardy.
  • Families who have elected to participate in the carpool dismissal will be provided with a red backpack tag and a corresponding car tag with their child's ID number to hang on the rear-view mirror. If you have multiple children, the number will correspond with the youngest child's student ID (you will not receive multiple tags). Please be sure to have this tag to help make the dismissal process more efficient.
  • Student drop-off will be from the brother’s side entrance to the masjid. An ICF Sunday School admin will be at the entrance (inside) to welcome students and direct them to their classroom. Students in Session 2 may be dropped off in the car drive-thru lane at the sister's entrance.
  • Student pick-up takes place in the lobby, outside of the Main Prayer Hall (downstairs). Students in Session 1 may also be picked up through the carpool lane, provided that you have indicated that you prefer this method of dismissal.
  • Please don’t drop off your children 15 minutes prior to classes starting, as there will be no volunteers available to look after them.
  • Please do not pick up your children later than 11:30 (session 1) or 2:20 pm (session 2). If you pick up your students after this time, we will ask that parents pay a nominal $10 dollar donation to the masjid to account for the extra supervision of the children. Parents who are routinely late may be asked to pay a higher fee.

Attendance Policy

As your student's weekly time at Sunday School is limited, regular and punctual attendance is the most significant factor for your student's success. Attending class each week ensures that every student keeps up with the grade level curriculum and assignment schedules while also being exposed to a positive Islamic environment at the masjid.

Excessive absences and tardies can significantly hinder your student's academic growth; however, ICFSS understands that there are times when missing class is unavoidable. Absences are categorized into two types – unexcused and excused absences. When a student is initially marked absent from class, they will be given the status of "unexcused absence." In order to mark the absence as "excused," a parent or guardian must complete the absence reporting form within five (5) days of the missed class. You may choose to notify the teacher directly, but please note that the only way to excuse an absence officially is by completing the online form. The absence will remain unexcused if the form is not completed within 5 days.

Please note the cutoff for early pickup is 10:30 AM for first shift and 1:30 PM for the second shift.

Unexcused Absence Policy (per semester):

  • 1-2 unexcused absences – teacher follow-up
  • 3 unexcused absences – administrative warning
  • 4+ unexcused absences – remediation and potential unenrollment
Excused Absence Policy (per semester):
  • 3-4 excused absences – teacher follow-up
  • 5-6 excused absences – administrator outreach/remediation
  • 7+ excused absences – potential unenrollment
Tardy Policy (per semester):
  • 3 tardies – one unexcused absence
  • 6 tardies – administrative warning
  • 7+ tardies – disciplinary referral
Please note that these are general guidelines, and that ICFSS reserves the right to modify the absence and tardy policy on a case-by-case basis. The official method of communication with the admin team will always be via email (sundayschool@friscomasjid.org).

Student Requirements & Recommendations

  • Students are recommended to bring their own water bottles and should avoid sharing supplies.
  • Students should bring lunch or a snack to have during their scheduled lunch/recess time. Please note that ICFSS is a nut free zone. We ask families to support this policy by sending a nut-free snack every Sunday and instructing children not to share any food with others.
  • Students should bring their school supplies with them such as pencils, erasers, pencil sharpener, a glue stick, and a pair of scissors.
  • Parents are highly encouraged to label their student’s belongings, including lunch boxes, backpacks, and textbooks/workbooks. ICFSS is not responsible for items left behind by students. If a student loses their textbook or workbook, please note that parents are responsible for the full cost of replacement.
  • Students should bring a backpack with them to store their textbooks and any papers they receive in class.
  • There are strictly no cellphones, tablets, video game consoles, or other personal devices allowed during school time. If a student is found to be using these devices during school hours, it will be confiscated and returned to a parent at the end of the school day. Please refer to the handbook for a detailed device policy.

Health & Safety

  • Student safety is of utmost importance at ICF Sunday School. Please note the following changes to our policies for the 2023-24 school year:
    • During the school day, we will have two security guards on-site to patrol the exterior of the building and to monitor all exits.
    • The brothers and sisters side entry door will be locked from the exterior during school hours, apart from arrival and dismissal times..
    • Access to the building will be restricted during school hours. Parents and visitors will not be permitted to enter student areas, including the brother’s musallah and upstairs classrooms, except during designated times. If you would like to pick up your child early, please report to the admin office (please do not go to your child’s class directly).
  • Students should not attend Sunday School in the following circumstances:
    • Signs of severe illness, including fever, irritability, difficulty breathing, or crying that does not stop with the usual comforting.
    • Diarrhea (3 or more episodes of loose stools in 24 hours). A child must be diarrhea-free for 24 hours without the use of diarrhea suppressing medications.
    • Vomiting two or more times in 24 hours. A child should have one or more meals without vomiting before returning to school. Your child may be sent home from Sunday school for vomiting one time.
    • A temperature of 100 degrees or above. A child must have a temperature below 100 degrees for 24 hours before returning to Sunday school, without the use of fever-reducing medication.
    • Questionable rash until a physician has determined the rash is not caused by an infectious disease.
    • Known communal diseases must be treated for the appropriate amount of time as directed by a physician.
  • If a child becomes ill while at Sunday school, faculty and staff will isolate him or her and contact parents promptly to pick up their child.

Student Behavior

  • In general, ICF Sunday School expects all students to exhibit good moral character. This includes:
    • Being respectful to all teachers, staff members, and fellow students
    • Being courteous and helpful, especially towards younger students and peers
    • Refraining from the use of bad or inappropriate language.
  • ICF Sunday School has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for bullying, harassment, and discriminatory behavior. Please refer to the school handbook for detailed guidance on this policy.
  • Please note that the administration has a process for documenting all behavioral related incidents – if you or your child have any concerns regarding this, please reach out to the Sunday School administration via email (sundayschool@friscomasjid.org).
  • The following behavior will result in disciplinary action:
    • Fighting with or insulting other students – this includes verbally, physically, or electronically.
    • Disrespecting teachers, staff, or school administration.
    • Using abusive and/or foul language
    • Disrupting class
    • Consistently not participating/paying attention in class
    • Damaging school property
    • Skipping classes or excessive absences
    • Leaving school premises without permission
